Why are we having so many natural disasters in such a short time span?

the resent Earthquakes in Japan and other countries. The flooding and tornado's in the US. Volcano eruptions. Springfield, M was hit by a tornado last week. I cannot remember when we have had so many natural disasters in so short a time.
