Grand Marquis: Trunk Doesn't "pop-up", like it used to.?

The trunk lid lift tension is controlled by torsion bars attached to the hinges with the other end of each torsion bar anchored in a notched rail. There should be three notches in the rails and the torsion bars will probably be set in the bottom notch. Move one or both torsion bars up a notch on the rails until you get the desired trunk lid lift tension. Keep in mind though that when you increase tension on the torsion bars that you should maintain nearly equal tension on both and that there should not be more than one notch difference between the two torsion bars. If you move one up a notch you should also move the other up a notch to maintain equal lift tension on both hinges. But if moving both up a notch puts too much lift on the trunk lid you can move just one torsion bar up a notch as long as you do not move it more than one notch higher than the other.
