Can REALLY BAD credit stop me from enlisting?

ok I am going to college getting 15 credits to join in december I am legally seperated right now but there was a lot of debt ran up during my marriage $30,000 to be exact and I have one care being repossed im a co signer for she is hiding it and not paying for it I know security clearence is out of the question but will I be disqualified from enlisting period. I have taked to a lawyer and I can file chapter 7 bankrupt but it will take me awhile to get the money to pay for it. Will filling bankrupt stop me eathier? I would appreciate any answers thank you
