When did our society begin to advocate girls liking effeminate men?

And why are the effects so profound? Personally, I think that girls liking guys that resemble their own gender is quite shocking. If guys don't like girls that look like guys (For the most part) than why is this not vise versa? -_- Ohhh Yahoo answers, please break this spell of confusion~
