Question on popular book beginnings?

When they say the action has to start right away it doesn't have to be the literal meaning of action. It just has to be some sort of action that will draw the reader in. Some kind of conflict...physical or internal. Something important happening, etc. It just has to hook the reader; if you can hook the reader with some funny witty beginning that doesn't mean it has to be an "action" scene.
