How do you find out who gave who hiv?

My best friend recently died of HIV, and he was just diagnosed last year. We are thinking that the boyfriend is the one that gave it to him. How can we find out when the boyfriend actually tested positive for the disease. My best friend's mom is being verbally and emotionally abused by the boyfriend because he is slandering my friend's name now that he has ped. Any help would be awesome.
